Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, is the first female Nigerian musician to win a Grammy.

Tem won the award for ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ on Sunday night for her part in ‘Wait for U,’ the hit song by Future and Drake from 2022.

Here are some facts about Tems:

1. The birth date of Tems is June 11, 1995.

2. She’s 27 years old.

3 . Tems quit her job in 2018 to pursue a career in music.

4. She began learning self-production skills on YouTube, and on July 18, 2018, she released her self-produced debut single, “Mr. Rebel.”

5. The 7th of August, 2019 marked the release of her single “Try Me.”

6. DJ Edu selected her as one of the “ten artists to watch” in 2020.

7. On April 23, 2020, Tems and fellow Nigerian singer Davido were featured on a remix of “Know Your Worth” by American singer-songwriter Khalid and English electronic music duo Disclosure.

20.  The Ugandan police cited a violation of COVID-19 lockdown protocols as the reason for their arrests, but the two artists believed they had been set up. Two days later, the government of Uganda released them, apologised for their arrests, and dropped the charges.
