DSS Detains Husband, Son Killed in Imo Land Dispute; Pregnant Wife Demands Justice
A pregnant wife claims her husband has been missing since an Imo community youth leader allegedly directed DSS officers to arrest him, resulting in the tragic shooting death of their 5-year-old son on Boxing Day.
Mrs. Jennifer Johnson, who is currently pregnant, revealed to SaharaReporters that her husband has been missing since the incident. Bright Johnson, a 33-year-old native doctor from the Obolo area of Mbano in Owerri, Imo State, has been reported missing following an alleged abduction on December 26.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that armed men, purportedly led by the community’s youth president, Amaze Chibuke, known as Jaguar, were involved in the incident.
A five-year-old boy was reportedly shot dead by armed men identified as personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Owerri.

Mrs. Jennifer Johnson, who is currently pregnant, revealed to SaharaReporters that her husband has been missing since the incident.
Mrs. Johnson alleged that a commercial motorcyclist, who was apprehended alongside her husband after delivering a patient to their residence for herbal treatment, has shared unsettling information with her.
After his release, the motorcyclist informed her that her husband was being held in a covert facility by the DSS in Owerri. The motorcyclist recounted that following their abrupt removal, they ended up at the DSS office in Owerri.
He emphasised that he and Mr. Johnson were subsequently separated and placed in different cells. Jennifer recounted her encounter with the motorcyclist, who appeared visibly traumatised during their conversation.
She highlighted that the man had not laid eyes on her husband since their separation at the DSS office. She stated, “My father-in-law visited the DSS office, but they denied him access to see his son.” He was instructed to visit the Mbano headquarters to obtain a letter that would authorise his appearance at the DSS.
Upon arriving at the Mbano headquarters to retrieve a letter as requested by the DSS, he was informed that the commander was currently in Abuja. The DSS was seen manoeuvring the elderly man throughout the state. The matter has been reported to the police.
Before his arrest, he initiated legal action against the community’s youth president, Amaze Chibuke, concerning a land dispute. The killing of my son has also been reported to the police. On Monday, I had a meeting with the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, in his office.
During our discussion, he advised me to report the killing of my son to the division police headquarters in my area to facilitate an arrest.
“Currently, I lack the financial resources to facilitate police mobilisation for the arrest.” Significant financial resources have been allocated to searching throughout the state for the location where he is being held.
Nigerians are being urged to extend their support in this time of need. “There are efforts underway to implicate my husband, seemingly to provide a rationale for the tragic death of our son.”
The question arises: If there are no underlying issues, what prompted Chibuke to seek refuge with the DSS when the matter was already in the hands of the police?
On Sunday, SaharaReporters highlighted the distressing account of Mrs. Jennifer, who has raised alarms regarding the purported extrajudicial killing of her five-year-old son, allegedly orchestrated by a group led by Amaze Chibuke.
Mrs. Johnson has made a poignant appeal for justice directed at the Director-General of the DSS and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
She has levelled serious accusations against the youth president of the Obolo community, claiming he ordered the shooting of her brother-in-law, Okechukwu Johnson, and the subsequent arrest of her husband on undisclosed charges.
Mrs. Johnson has claimed that the youth president, currently engaged in a land dispute with her husband, unlawfully entered their residence accompanied by unidentified individuals armed with pump-action guns.
She alleges that they demanded the shooting of her husband and his younger brother for opposing their attempts at arrest.
She reported, “My husband was shot in the leg and taken to an undisclosed location on December 26.” His younger brother sustained a gunshot wound to the back, while my five-year-old son was tragically killed by gunfire.
Mrs. Johnson, currently expecting, reported that after considerable pressure from her family and her husband’s relatives, Chubuke asserted that her husband was being held at the DSS office located in Irete along Onitsha Road in Owerri, Imo State.
She stated, “I am urging the Director General of the Department of State Services and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in this situation and protect my husband from the lethal group associated with Chibuke.”
The family has made multiple attempts to reach my husband, yet officials from the DSS have consistently denied them access.” I seek confirmation regarding the status of my husband’s life. Unbeknownst to him, his son has been shot dead.
My husband has not committed any offence.” The ongoing dispute over family land has become a source of distress for my husband. Chibuke did not respond to the allegations when approached by SaharaReporters.
