Fubara asserts that no Governor should endure the insults he faced from Pro-Wike lawmakers.

No governor should have to endure the insults I faced from pro-Wike lawmakers. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defended his choice to present the 2025 budget to just three lawmakers.

He claims that the 27 members of the State House of Assembly who switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have irrevocably forfeited their positions.

Fubara, currently in a political standoff with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that there is no legal avenue for the defected lawmakers to regain their positions.

The governor addressed the media following the signing of the N1.1 trillion 2025 budget at the Rivers State House in Port Harcourt on Thursday. He expressed that he has faced considerable insults from Wike’s camp and made it clear that he would not accept any further disrespect.

He rejected allegations of a factional Assembly, asserting that the three-member legislative body under the leadership of Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo is the sole legitimate Assembly in the state. In an effort to clarify his position, Fubara stated, “I want to say this, maybe for some persons somewhere who are still mixing up issues.”

The singular Assembly in question is under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo. The governor likened the actions of the defected lawmakers to a failed expedition, stating, “A group of friends about nine months ago embarked on what is called a sea-bared journey; halfway through the vessel, while they were coasting, they realised that they were entering the den of devils and sharks, and they now want to retreat.

The time has passed, and the reality is that there is no turning back.” Fubara reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the state’s integrity, stating, “We have provided them ample opportunity for peace.”

No governor in Nigeria could endure the level of insult I experienced from that group of individuals. Currently, our primary focus is on the interests of Rivers State, and we remain committed to upholding the integrity of governance.

The statement reflects a clear sense of progression, indicating that the speaker believes the situation has been resolved and that there is no turning back.
