Police Order Senator Natasha to Cancel Homecoming Rally Over Security Concerns.

The Kogi State Police Command has directed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to halt her planned Sallah homecoming rally in the Central Senatorial District, citing intelligence reports of potential violence and a state government ban on political gatherings.

In a Tuesday statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer ASP William Aya, Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye warned that the event—scheduled amid Eid el-Fitr celebrations—posed a security risk. The order follows Monday’s prohibition by Governor Usman Ododo on public gatherings and convoy movements, linked to fears of unrest.

“Intelligence indicates hoodlums aim to hijack the rally, threatening the peace Kogi currently enjoys,” the statement read. The Command urged organizers to cancel the event immediately, vowing to enforce the ban and prosecute anyone disturbing public order.

Despite the warning, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, insists her visit is a non-political “homecoming” to celebrate Eid with constituents. “I’m only coming to share joy with my people,” she asserted, dismissing the ban as an overreach.

The clash highlights rising tensions in the state, with critics accusing Governor Ododo’s administration of stifling opposition voices under the guise of security. The police reiterated their stance, emphasizing adherence to the state’s directive to prevent chaos.
