Goodluck Ihemnacho, the appointed administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, has resigned from his position, becoming the first high-profile appointee under the tenure of the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to step aside.

Reason for Resignation

In his resignation letter, Ihemnacho explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to return to the private sector. He expressed appreciation to both the Rivers State Government and the people of Ahoada East for the opportunity to serve from April 11 to June 20, 2025.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the growth of our local government. It has been an honour working alongside dedicated individuals committed to public service,” the letter read in part.

Political Speculation Surrounds Exit

While Ihemnacho cited personal and professional reasons for stepping down, TJ News Nigeria gathered that political speculation has been mounting regarding his potential interest in the upcoming local government elections in Rivers State. However, no official declaration has been made by Ihemnacho or his associates regarding his future political plans.

Ihemnacho was among 23 local government administrators appointed earlier this year by the Rivers State Government, part of a broader leadership restructuring aimed at stabilising governance in the state amid lingering political tensions.

Implications for Rivers State Politics

His resignation comes at a sensitive time as Rivers State navigates ongoing political challenges and prepares for crucial local government polls. The development adds another layer of uncertainty to the political dynamics within the state’s power structure.

Political analysts believe that the departure of a key administrator may further signal internal realignments ahead of the elections. However, official reactions from the Rivers State Government and the ruling political leadership remain pending as of the time of reporting.

TJ News Nigeria will continue monitoring developments in Rivers State and provide timely updates on emerging political shifts.
