The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from the South-South zone have adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the region’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
TJ News Nigeria reports that the resolution was reached during the party’s zonal stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
In a significant political move, the APC also resolved to endorse its four sitting governors from the South-South zone as sole governorship candidates for the next election cycle in states currently under the party’s control.

Tinubu Endorsed by APC South-South
The endorsement of President Tinubu was unanimously agreed upon by high-ranking APC leaders from the six South-South states. The party’s zonal leadership praised his administration’s achievements and cited his continued relevance in sustaining national progress.
The communiqué containing the resolution was read by Chief Victor Giadom, APC National Vice Chairman (South-South). The motion was moved by Professor Julius Ihonvbere, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District.

The meeting was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, further underlining the national importance attached to the zonal gathering.
APC Governors Also Endorsed for Continuity
TJ News Nigeria learnt that four APC governors in the South-South region have also received automatic endorsements to contest in their respective upcoming elections:
- Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State
- Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State (set for re-election in 2028 following his 2027 off-cycle election)
- Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State
- Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State
Oborevwori and Eno both defected from the PDP to the APC in recent months, a development that has shifted the balance of power in the region in favour of the ruling party.
