APC Governor,  Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has revealed intentions to lower petrol prices for a specific group of state residents who are farmers.

The governor announced on Friday night while speaking in Bama town. Governor Zulum said the state government will help farmers in towns impacted by the insurgency with petrol subsidies.

The governor claims that the farmers in Maidugiri will be subsidised for N600 from a litre of petrol sold between N1,000 and N1,200. This project seeks to assist farmers trying to rebuild after being displaced by Boko Haram militants.

Zulum underlined that a similar project carried out in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, last year has greatly raised food output and enhanced living conditions.

“One of the major challenges that are facing the farming communities here as regards irrigation farming is the increasing cost of fuel, thus, I want to announce to the general public that the government will procure petroleum products and sell them to the farmers at a subsided rate.

A litre of petrol is being sold in Maidugiri at the cost of about N1,200 but in sha Allah, henceforth for irrigation farmers this season a litre of petrol will be sold at the rate of N600.”

Zulum further said, “The Commissioner for Agriculture will work with the Brigade Commander to ensure the delivery of the petroleum products to farmers in Bama town as soon as possible.”

Along with 2000 bags of mixed NPK fertiliser, 1000 units of water pumps and 620 units of petrol pumps, the governor also sent agriculture supplies to more than 5,000 farmers.

Among other supplies are 380 solar water pumps, 1000 sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hose, and 1000 gallons of insecticides and seeds.
