PDP Summons Emergency Meeting Over Wike’s Actions and Allegiances

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the formation of a high-level committee to spearhead the establishment of a new national headquarters for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.

The directive was issued during a closed-door stakeholders’ meeting at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, and involves key party stakeholders, including the APC National Working Committee (NWC), Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

TJ News Nigeria gathered that the President’s instruction aligns with a broader plan to reposition the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also coincides with the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the new APC National Chairman, a move described by insiders as part of efforts to foster unity and stability within the party’s hierarchy.

Tinubu Moves to Strengthen APC Infrastructure

According to sources at the meeting, President Tinubu tasked the newly formed committee with:

  • Identifying a strategic and accessible parcel of land within the FCT
  • Designing and overseeing the construction of a befitting APC national headquarters
  • Ensuring the project reflects the party’s status as Nigeria’s ruling political organization

The President emphasized the need for a more modern facility to meet the administrative and operational demands of the party. The current secretariat located on Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja, is said to no longer serve the evolving needs of the APC.

Wike’s Role Crucial to Implementation

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is expected to play a lead role in executing the project, leveraging his experience in urban development and infrastructure delivery. Wike has been instrumental in several large-scale projects in Abuja, including road reconstruction and public facility upgrades.

The committee will also include:

  • Senior members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC)
  • Governors under the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF)
  • Technical advisors and urban planners appointed by the FCT administration

Timeline and Budget Yet to Be Announced

While the party has not officially disclosed a timeline or estimated cost for the proposed APC national secretariat, sources say the committee will operate under strict directives to ensure transparency, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.

Insiders hinted that preliminary assessments and land identification would commence immediately, followed by architectural planning and funding strategy.

Public Reactions and Concerns

The announcement has generated mixed reactions across political circles and civil society. Critics have questioned the timing of the project, citing Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges and inflationary pressures. Others argue that party infrastructure development should not take precedence over urgent governance issues such as poverty alleviation, security, and job creation.

However, party loyalists defend the move, noting that a centralized, state-of-the-art secretariat will enhance party cohesion, policy development, and coordination ahead of future electoral contests.

Strategic Goals of the New Secretariat

The proposed headquarters is expected to serve as:

  • A central hub for party strategy and operations
  • A venue for national stakeholder engagements and political negotiations
  • A symbol of APC’s institutional capacity and vision for continuity in governance

Political analysts believe that the project may also function as a confidence-building measure among APC factions and stakeholders, particularly as internal power dynamics continue to evolve ahead of the next election cycle.
