A bidder participating in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) ongoing vehicle auction has raised concerns about irregularities, claiming that his winning bid mysteriously vanished from the system.

The bidder, identified as @Chizytelu on X (formerly Twitter), shared his experience in a post, alleging that a Mercedes Benz C300, with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98, which he won with a bid of N5,570,001, suddenly disappeared from the auction site after his successful bid.
In the post, @Chizytelu expressed his disbelief, stating, “I’ve just seen magic happen right before my eyes. A C300 with lot number ADC/BEN/AU/98 that I bid on and won at N5,570,001 just vanished from the auction site. @officialEFCC una well done.”

After noticing the disappearance, the frustrated bidder reached out to the auctioneer for clarification. However, he was reportedly told that the matter was “out of their hands” and was advised to contact the EFCC directly for further assistance.
This incident has sparked widespread questions about the transparency of the e-auction process, which is part of the EFCC’s ongoing initiative to dispose of approximately 900 vehicles, seized from corrupt politicians and other criminal investigations. The auction is being conducted under the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management Act 2022), which allows the EFCC to sell off assets recovered from criminal activities.

The timing of the disappearance raises further suspicions, as it occurred just days after the EFCC announced its nationwide e-auction, fueling concerns about the integrity of the entire process.
Netizens have expressed their doubts about the fairness and openness of the auction, with many questioning whether other bidders may have experienced similar issues. The EFCC, however, has yet to respond to these allegations of irregularities or provide any clarification regarding the incident.
As the controversy continues to unfold, many are calling for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that the auction process remains transparent and free from manipulation. The EFCC’s response to the claims will likely play a crucial role in maintaining public confidence in its asset recovery initiatives.
