Breaking: Governor Oborevwori Appoints Okunbor as Accountant-General

The Delta State Government has approved the appointment of Mr. V. I. E. Okunbor as the new Accountant-General of the state.

TJ News Nigeria reports that the appointment, which takes effect from June 5, 2025, was formally conveyed in an official letter from the Office of the Head of Service and personally signed by Dr. (Mrs.) M. I. Oseji, the Head of Service, Delta State.

The letter referenced HOS/36/205/51, confirmed that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, granted approval for Mr. Okunbor’s elevation to the key fiscal management position.

Terms of Appointment and Responsibilities

TJ News Nigeria gathered that the newly appointed Accountant-General is entitled to salary and allowances equivalent to those of Permanent Secretaries, as stipulated in Circular No. HOS.41/1/T/198 dated 16th April 2014.

The letter emphasized that the elevation is a recognition of Mr. Okunbor’s dedication and is expected to further motivate him to perform his duties with diligence and integrity, in accordance with the Fiscal Responsibility Law and other applicable financial regulations.

“It is expected that this elevation will further motivate you to discharge your responsibilities with utmost dedication, in alignment with the Fiscal Responsibility Law and other applicable regulations,” the letter read in part.

Dr. Oseji, in her remarks, expressed heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Okunbor, describing the appointment as well-deserved.

“Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on this well-deserved appointment,” she stated, wishing him success in his new role as the chief accounting officer of the state.
