Kaduna Police Clarify Identity of Man Who Attempted to Approach President Tinubu
The Kaduna State Police Command has provided clarification regarding the man who breached security protocol during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025. According to the police, the individual identified as Umar Mohammed was born with a psychiatric disorder.
TJ News Nigeria reports that the incident occurred while President Tinubu was delivering a speech at the Murtala Square during his official visit. A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the moment the man attempted to bypass security barricades to get closer to the President but was swiftly intercepted by security operatives.

Police Confirm No Threat to the President
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, on Friday, June 20, the police revealed that Umar Mohammed is a resident of Anguwan Muazu, Kaduna, and suffers from a psychiatric condition.

“He is an ardent supporter of Mr. President and the Governor, according to our findings,” Hassan stated.
TJ News Nigeria gathered that Mohammed was screened and admitted into the event venue as part of the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, wearing the standard campaign T-shirt and carrying banners bearing the images of both President Tinubu and the Kaduna State Governor.

The police disclosed that Mohammed was initially standing in the designated area for party supporters before he suddenly crossed the protocol barrier into the restricted section of the arena.
“He breached the protocol and barged into the restricted perimeter fence out of curiosity and excitement to catch a closer look at the President,” the police spokesperson noted.
Following his arrest by inner security personnel, Mohammed explained during interrogation that his actions were driven by anxiety and emotional excitement, describing a long-held desire to meet with the President and the Governor personally.
A thorough search was conducted, and no incriminating items were found in his possession.

Warning Against Misinformation
The Kaduna State Police Command also issued a caution to members of the public, warning against the spread of false narratives or politicisation of the incident. The command emphasised that investigations are ongoing to fully establish all circumstances surrounding the incident.
TJ News Nigeria learnt that security agencies remain on heightened alert to ensure the safety of the President and other dignitaries during official engagements.
