Delta Police Launch Probe Into Death of Gov. Oborevwori’s Aide, Chief Love Shimite.

ASABA — The Delta State Police Command has commenced a formal investigation into the sudden death of Chief Love Shimite, a senior aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who served as the Special Adviser on Trade and Export.

Shimite reportedly died in the early hours of Easter Monday, with initial accounts attributing her death to a brief illness. However, emerging developments have prompted the police to open a deeper inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State, DSP Bright Edafe, stated that Chief Shimite was confirmed dead upon arrival at a hospital. “She was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken,” Edafe told reporters.

A critical dimension of the ongoing investigation involves Shimite’s husband, who was the first to notify the authorities about her death. According to Edafe, the husband had reached out to report the incident and raised concerns about threats he was receiving from the deceased’s family.

“He was the one who called to report that his wife had died early that morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” Edafe explained.

The police spokesperson clarified that the husband has not been arrested but is currently in protective custody. “We must emphasise that he is not under arrest. His custody is purely for his protection at this stage,” he said.

The situation escalated after the family of the late Shimite formally lodged a complaint with the police, alleging possible foul play in her death. “The deceased’s family later came to the station and made an official complaint. They believe there may be more to her death and are suspicious of the husband’s involvement,” Edafe disclosed.

In response to the complaint, the Delta State Police Command has initiated a full-scale investigation, including plans to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the true cause of death.

“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” Edafe added.

As the police continue their probe, the Command has assured the public that updates will be provided as more facts emerge.

Chief Love Shimite’s death has sent shockwaves through Delta State’s political and business communities, where she was widely regarded as a dedicated and effective public servant. The outcome of the police investigation is now eagerly awaited.
