Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the 83-year-old General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has foretold the circumstances of his death, stating he will die peacefully on a Sunday after attending church service and enjoying his favorite meal of pounded yam.

The respected cleric, born on March 2, 1942, made the statement on the fourth day of the RCCG’s ongoing international convention themed “The Overcomers.” TJ News Nigeria reports that Pastor Adeboye reiterated his belief that death does not necessarily follow a prolonged illness, a declaration he first made two years ago.

He affirmed, “I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness.” The cleric emphasized that his departure would be sudden and painless.

Fight for Your Divine Rights

In his sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” Pastor Adeboye urged Christians to aggressively claim what is rightfully theirs through Christ. He drew a parallel to the biblical Israelites, whom God promised the land of Canaan but who still had to fight to possess it.

Pastor Adeboye said, “In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours. Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing, but there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.”

He reminded the congregation, “The One who owns the earth and all its fullness, owns all the silver and gold, and paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor.”

The cleric highlighted the criticism faced by successful Christians and the skepticism when believers suffer poverty or hardship. “If you make it as a Christian, they criticize you. If you die poor, they say ‘Where’s your God?’ Long life is yours. We must not remain under the power of the forces of darkness anymore,” he stated.

Wrestling for Breakthrough

Pastor Adeboye referenced the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel (Genesis 32) as a model of perseverance. He said, “Jacob wrestled with the angel until his fate was changed. It is what we tolerate that disturbs us.”

He encouraged the congregation to stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death. “The fight to possess your possessions is a necessary spiritual duty empowered by Christ’s sacrifice,” he said.

The week-long RCCG Annual Convention at Redemption Camp is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with a thanksgiving service.
