ABUJA – Former presidential candidate and African Action Congress (AAC) chieftain, Omoyele Sowore, has accused Nollywood actor and ex-spokesperson of the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, of secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sowore made the allegation on Monday in response to a recent statement by Okonkwo in which the latter declared that anyone opposing a coalition aimed at unseating Tinubu in 2027 is effectively serving the interests of the President.

The controversy emerged after Okonkwo, in a Sunday statement, argued that a united opposition coalition was the only viable strategy to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election. He emphasized that “whoever is against a coalition in 2027 is an agent to Tinubu.”
“Nigerians are tired of the ruling party, but their only obstacle is a disunited opposition,” Okonkwo asserted. “If the opposition parties come together today against APC, this will mark the end of APC and probably the dawn of a new era.”
However, Sowore, a well-known human rights activist and consistent critic of the APC-led administration, dismissed Okonkwo’s remarks as a deceptive tactic. He alleged that the former Labour Party spokesman is part of a larger scheme designed by the APC to weaken genuine opposition.

“They have resumed their gimmicks,” Sowore said. “Meanwhile, they are the very people the All Progressives Congress is using to eradicate authentic opposition to Bola Tinubu’s terrible regime.”
Sowore questioned Okonkwo’s political trajectory, noting his sudden departure from the Labour Party following the 2023 elections. “Kenneth Okonkwo originated from the APC, joined Labour Party, and exited abruptly after the election—because they didn’t want to confront the man they claimed stole their mandate.”
He also criticized the integrity of the broader opposition movement, alleging that many individuals spearheading coalition talks have compromised positions. “Many of them, especially elected Labour Party members, have defected to the APC. Even those previously from the PDP haven’t returned to their former base. They are forming a spurious coalition, feigning interest in ousting a man they are all clandestinely supporting,” he added.
Sowore’s comments come amid growing uncertainty about the unity of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, in a recent communique issued after a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, distanced itself from ongoing coalition efforts led by former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
