There is jubilation in Ogun State as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Court of Appeal in the state.

 

TJ News Nigeria reports that the appellate court will be located in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The announcement was made on Monday, September 15, 2025, by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who described the development as a historic step towards faster justice delivery in the state.


Tinubu Approves New Court of Appeal in Ogun

In his statement, Governor Abiodun confirmed that the approval came directly from the Tinubu-led federal government. He expressed confidence that the establishment of the appellate court in Abeokuta would:

  • Ensure quicker dispensation of justice.
  • Ease the workload on the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal.
  • Strengthen the foundation of fairness and equity in the state’s judicial system.

Governor Abiodun pledged that his administration would continue to support the judiciary by:

  • AbdulRazaq Oshogbade commended the move and called for the creation of a Sharia Court of Appeal to handle Islamic personal law cases.
  • Oyetunde described it as a “historic milestone” that brings justice closer to the people.
  • Olufemi Dokunmu noted that it was particularly fitting for a state with a record of producing distinguished lawyers and judges.
  • Olufemi Adebanjo called it a “noble accomplishment”, praising the government for prioritising access to justice.

Earlier in 2025, President Tinubu signed multiple bills into law, creating development commissions and institutions across Nigeria’s regions as part of his commitment to equity and growth.
