Tinubu, Guinea-Bissau President, Others Attend Buhari’s Funeral Rites in Daura (Full List of Dignitaries)

President Bola Tinubu, alongside several African leaders and high-profile dignitaries, attended the funeral rites of late former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Daura, Katsina State.

 

TJ News Nigeriareports that the Janazah (funeral prayer) was led by Imam Hassan Yusuf after 4:00 p.m. at the Daura Helipad, where the late president’s body was brought for final rites.


Buhari’s Body Flown to Nigeria by Air Force Jet

The remains of the late President were flown into Nigeria aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft (FGT 001), which landed at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila accompanied the body from abroad.

At the airport, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several federal and state officials received the body before it was conveyed by road to Daura.


Final Prayers at the Helipad

After a military farewell parade, the funeral prayer was held at the Daura Helipad, led by Imam Hassan Yusuf, with a large gathering of dignitaries, clerics, royal fathers, and residents in attendance.

Burial in Personal Residence

After the prayer, the late president’s body was taken to his private residence in Daura, where he was interred in accordance with Islamic rites.

Thousands of residents who were initially denied access to the venue due to security protocols were later allowed entry to witness the final rites.

Residents Pay Tribute to Buhari

Locals in Daura and Katsina expressed deep emotions following the burial. Many described Buhari as a man of integrity, simplicity, and public service.

Salisu Lawal, a Daura resident, said: “Buhari was a great man who loved being among his people and helping them in times of need.”

Aliyu Nasiru added: “This is not just a personal loss to his family but a national tragedy. He created a vacuum that will be hard to fill.”

Residents prayed for his soul and urged the Federal Government to immortalize him through national monuments and history education.


Prayer for Peace and Legacy

The crowd prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and for Buhari to be granted Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Federal Government is yet to announce official plans for posthumous honours or a national memorial.
