CUPP Scribe Peter Ameh Blasts Tinubu Over Fuel Subsidy Removal, Economic Policies
Peter Ameh, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and a former presidential aspirant, has lambasted President Bola Tinubu for what he described as the “reckless and insensitive” removal of fuel subsidy and the alleged dismantling of Nigeria’s economic framework within two years of his administration.
Ameh made the damning remarks during a live interview on Arise News Prime Time on Friday night, where he openly criticised the President’s approach to economic reforms, stating that the fuel subsidy removal lacked foresight, planning, and empathy for ordinary Nigerians.

Fuel Subsidy Removal ‘Insensitive and Ill-Prepared’ — Ameh
Ameh decried the manner in which the Tinubu administration ended the fuel subsidy regime, asserting that it was done without any well-structured policy framework to cushion its adverse impact on citizens already battling economic hardship.

“At the time the President came in, a litre of fuel was N197. Today, it is about N1,000 because he removed the fuel subsidy without a clear policy direction,” Ameh stated. “It was an impromptu decision, not well thought out. A responsible government should have a clear plan and a cushioning strategy.”
TJ News Nigeria reports that Ameh’s critique highlights growing concerns among civil society, labour groups, and opposition politicians over the government’s handling of reforms.
APC Accused of Governing in ‘Alternate Universe’

The CUPP chieftain questioned the awareness of ruling party members about the current economic reality, suggesting they may be disconnected from the sufferings of everyday Nigerians.
“Is it that the members of the APC live in an alternate universe, or they are too scared to face the reality that the Nigerian people are facing?” he queried.
“You cannot rely on economic policies that only satisfy liberal textbook theories while ignoring real human consequences.”
He stressed that Nigerians are grappling with unbearable transportation costs, rising food prices, and deepening poverty—all directly linked to the subsidy removal and other poorly implemented policies.
‘Tinubu Has Destroyed Economic Progress’
Peter Ameh further accused President Tinubu of reversing whatever economic progress Nigeria had made prior to his assumption of office.

“In the last two years, the President has worsened our economic progress. He has destroyed everything he met on ground,” he stated.
Ameh insisted that a well-articulated manifesto should have guided Tinubu’s policy execution but lamented that no such structured implementation has been visible in his administration.
Unfulfilled Promises and Policy Inconsistency
Referencing a specific campaign promise by President Tinubu to cultivate over 500,000 hectares of farmland nationwide, Ameh said:
“Nothing has been done on that front. When the President said he was going to till 500,000 hectares of land across Nigeria, none of that he has done. So we can’t continue to live on the whims and caprices of the President’s statements.”
TJ News Nigeria gathered that agricultural development was a major pillar in Tinubu’s pre-election agenda, aimed at boosting food security and job creation. However, stakeholders have lamented the absence of action two years into the administration.
‘Nigerians Are Not Feeling Any Improvement’
The CUPP National Secretary expressed deep concern that two years into Tinubu’s presidency, there is no tangible improvement in the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
“If government is working in two years, Nigerians will feel it,” he emphasized.
“But the economic system today shows that the ordinary masses on the streets are not seeing any improvement. They are suffering due to high transportation costs, which is also driving inflation in goods and services.”
Ameh warned that continued hardship could further fuel national discontent and erode public confidence in democratic governance.
Criticism Reflects Growing Public Sentiment
TJ News Nigeria learnt that Ameh’s remarks echo a rising wave of public dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly as inflation continues to soar and the naira struggles against foreign currencies.
Experts and social commentators argue that without a coordinated economic roadmap backed by targeted interventions and social safety nets, the situation may deteriorate further.
