Paul Ibe Claims Presidency Fears Opposition Unity Ahead of 2027 Polls
Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of being apprehensive about the growing coalition of opposition figures working to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
TJ News Nigeria gathered that Ibe made this statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he described the recent remarks from President Tinubu’s camp dismissing the opposition’s coalition efforts as signs of panic and fear.

This development follows recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who declared that the planned coalition by Atiku, Peter Obi, and other prominent opposition figures was doomed to fail.
Why Tinubu’s Camp Is ‘Afraid’ – Ibe
Reacting to Wike’s comments, Ibe argued that the APC’s insistence that the proposed coalition will collapse is evidence that they are unsettled by the idea of a united opposition.

“All of the things that are happening — that the coalition is not going to work — is because they are already scared. They are scared of the prospect of the coalition. Otherwise, why has that become a talking point? Whether it succeeds or not is not their business,” Ibe said.
He urged Nigerians to remain focused on the goal of voting out Tinubu in 2027, emphasizing that collective action from the opposition remains the best strategy to achieve that objective.
“Nigerians should keep their eyes on the ball; they should be focused. Better days are coming, but we need to work for it, and that work has to start with ensuring that this administration is shown the exit door in 2027,” he stressed.

Assessment of Tinubu’s Performance: ‘A Total Failure’
Speaking on President Tinubu’s administration since assuming office, Paul Ibe delivered a scathing verdict, branding it “a total failure.”
According to him, instead of prioritizing governance and the welfare of Nigerians, Tinubu’s government has been obsessed with securing re-election in 2027.
“It’s all about 2027. Focus on the job, focus on governance, make life meaningful and better for Nigerians, and make food affordable,” Ibe said. “Let there be security of lives and property, which is the primary responsibility of any government.”
‘Temporary Pains’ With No End in Sight

While the Tinubu administration has repeatedly assured Nigerians that the current economic hardships are temporary, Ibe insisted that the promises have failed to inspire confidence.
He maintained that after two years in office, there were no credible signs of relief on the horizon for ordinary Nigerians.

“If there was any indication that things would improve, Nigerians would have started feeling the positive effects by now,” he stated.
Growing Coalition Against Tinubu
TJ News Nigeria reports that coalition talks among Nigeria’s leading opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have been gaining momentum in recent months.
Despite the APC’s repeated dismissals of the coalition’s viability, political analysts note that the increasing cooperation among major opposition leaders could pose a significant challenge to President Tinubu’s second-term bid.
However, APC loyalists, including Wike, continue to express confidence that the opposition will not succeed in their efforts to wrest power from the ruling party in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
