The latest sad news now is that Reverend Father Tobias Chukwujekwu Okonkwo, a priest working under the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi has been shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen in Ihiala, Anambra state.
Rev Fr Tobias, who was also a pharmacist was shot dead on Thursday , Boxing Day, December 26, the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi made the announcement in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement released and signed by Rev. Fr. Raphael Ezeogu, Chancellor of the Nnewi Diocese, Fr. Tobias was killed between 7pm and 8pm along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.
The Diocese recognised the priest’s death as a tragic loss but expressed hope in divine comfort.

Fr. Tobias was born on August 11, 1984, and ordained as a priest on July 11, 2015.
The statement claims that before to his ruthless murder, he was the Manager of the Schools of Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Laboratory at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.

The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi has urged the faithful to comfort Fr. Tobias’s grieving family and give prayers and Holy Masses for his everlasting repose.
We will make an announcement about the funeral plans soon. The Diocese called on authorities to look into the situation and find the people responsible.
The phrase “Where sorrow increases, divine consolation increases all the more” provides solace to the Catholic community as they grieve the loss of this devoted priest.
