The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two pastors, Prophet Bassey Umoren (60) and Prophet Elijah Anietie (50), for possession of fetish items, including small caskets, monkey skulls, and carved skeletons. The pastors, founders of God’s Deliverance Apostolic Church and Power House of Glory International Gospel Church, were apprehended following a report by the youths of Rumunduru community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.


Details of the Arrest

The arrest occurred on January 20, 2025, after the youth leader of Rumunduru, Henry Worlu, alerted the authorities. The community youths intercepted the two pastors and handed them over to the Rivers State Police Command for investigation.

During a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Port Harcourt, Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that the items recovered from the suspects’ churches included:

  • Carved skeletons and wooden skulls.
  • Crosses, spiritual books, and other ritual items.

“This case, which has been trending on social media, involves two pastors reported by the youths of Rumunduru community,” said Iringe-Koko. She added that the investigation is ongoing to determine the full scope of their activities and identify any potential victims.
